Identify this vegetable

I found these veggies at the market. I have no idea what they are called in English. Anyone have any ideas?

Inside it looks like an eggplant. They're only about 2.5" tall.

Unfortunately they sat in the sun too long and by the time I got home, they were already spoiled. But they still look good!

It definitely looks like brazilian jilo, which my boyfriend's family makes a lot. It's like eggplant, but it has a somewhat bitter flavor. I can ask her to email me a recipe or two to send to you. I think you can grill it just like eggplant (though it will be bitter). Good nutrition though! BTW, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

We have something similar in Nigeria but theyre usually more green and white not as many red/pink ones. We'd eat them raw with peanut butter (spicy) and we called them Garden eggs so I reckon its probably the same or another eggplant related veg.

Hmmm, peanut butter would go great with these!
